Old fashioned coffee grinders custom made by hand. These coffee grinders
are handmade in Nacogdoches, Texas, one at a time, for 10 years now. BTW, Nacogdoches
is the oldest town in Texas...fits doesn't it! The boxes are made from select 3/4 inch thick,
100 % hardwood. The wood is sanded smooth, a
protective natural wood sealer is
applied to enhance and protect the wood grain and then hand rubbed to a beautiful luster with
a blend of beeswax, carnauba wax and orange oil. No varnish, polyurethane or paint is used. I
hate chemicals in my coffee!
These are heavy duty grinders like the originals from
the 1800s and are built to be used everyday. They are roughly 6 inches
square and 10 inches tall and weigh about 8 - 10 pounds. The coffee drawer
holds enough beans for 5-6
standard coffee scoops, enough for a full pot with one grinding. The mill is a premium grade cast iron mill. It is a
very strong hand crank, fully adjustable burr type grinder. This is
not an espresso press but it does grind
walnuts!
Burr grinders extract much more flavor from the
coffee bean than electric blade type grinders. Plus the coffee just tastes, and
smells better when you grind the beans by hand! ( If you love the smell of fresh
ground coffee, try grinding some coffee around a campfire!)
To grind your beans, a good old-fashioned coffee grinder will do as well as a
modern electric version. To guarantee optimal flavor, it is important that
the coffee mill is adjustable for different grades of grinding and that the
coffee is not heated during grinding. Electric grinders, which slice the beans
with blades rotating at high speeds, can make the powder much too hot, which is
bad for the coffee taste.

I recently counted 26 websites offering the
following: "
We are pleased to offer this fine
selection of hand crank coffee grinders. Imported woods from Germany &
Switzerland are carefully machined to insure the smoothest possible finish"....Really
unique! These flimsy imports weigh less than 2 lbs! When I was first looking for
mills, I contacted these people. They offered to throw in the box for nothing if
I bought the mill!
Compare my grinder with the famous Zassenhaus, while
the Zass mill is outstanding, their box is pitiful! Email me with your
Zass model number for a quote to upgrade to a 3/4" solid hardwood
box!
My grinders are heavy duty, handcrafted pieces built to
last! Each one is an individual creation! The great thing about real hardwood, is that it gets better looking over time! If you are looking for quality, not
price, these are the grinders you want. They make a
beautiful addition to anyone's kitchen and sure to become a family heirloom.
